The excursion to the State Russian Museum took place today as a part of St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy program. Martina Hingis (Switzerland) and Sania Mirza (India) took part in this event. This first pair duo in WTA rating was accompanied by the WTA tournament general director Aleksandr Medvedev and the tournament PR-director Vera Putina.
Vladimir Gusev, the director of the State Russian Museum, greeted guests and wished tournament participants to get positive emotions from the excursion. Sportswomen received a pleasant surprise before the excursion. Bright Russian-style shawls were gifted to them. Ladies followed the leading museum guide Sergey Buglak in these shawls.
Guests visited the unequalled architectural work – the White-column hall. Together with the main entrance hall they represent the only premises preserving the original image of palace interiors. Also they visited the hall with the Old Russian art with works of early and late Middle Ages, and halls with masterpieces of XVIII – first half of XIX centuries.
– We had a great excursion program, – Martina Hingis shares her impressions. – We had a lot of emotions and happy feelings from the beauty we saw in the museum. Of course we liked the White-column hall, halls’ decoration and the painting “The Last Days of Pompeii” by Bryullov!
Sportswomen answered the question about Russian cold winter with a smile:
– We arrived on Monday in the evening so we did not have time to freeze, – smiles Sania Mirza. – Of course the weather in India is hot and I was afraid of cold, but in fact the weather here is rather well and we have a great time!
– I am from Switzerland so I got used to the cold, – smiles Martina Hingis.
Sportswomen shared their bright expressions from Saint-Petersburg – the city with very beautiful architecture and masterpieces. Talking about St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy tournament, the pair noticed that they always try to demonstrate their best skills. They are glad to participate in this tournament and are ready to win.
