R1 matches of St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy werecompleted on Wednesdays and R2 matches started, too.
18 y.o. Elena Rybakina made a sensation of the day beating Caroline Garcia, saving M.P. – 4/6, 7/6(6), 7/6(5). Her next opponent will be the winner of the match Julia Goerges (Germany) v Roberta Vinci (Italy).
«I believed in myself till the end, tried not to think about the score, focused on every ball. It’s nervous to play against such opponent. I’m happy that I could win», – Rybakina said after the match.
Daria Kasatkina also reached QF. She didn’t give any chance to the French Alize Cornet in the last match of the day – 6/2, 6/1. Daria will play against the winner of the match Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) v Anastasia Potapova (Russia) on Friday.
Jelena Ostapenko defeated Vera Zvonareva in R2 – 7/6(6), 6/3. Ex-World No.2 redeemed herself in doubles as they bagelled (with Timea Bacsinszky) the Russians Valeria Pogrebnyak and Elena Rybakina – 6/0, 6/0.
Petra Kvitova outplayed Elena Vesnina in R1 in 1 hour 7 minutes. «It’s my first time in St. Petersburg, I really like it. I like to play indoors. I want to thank the organizers for giving me a wild card and thank the spectators for such a warm welcome», – Petra said.

In a match where a spot in the semis was at stake Raquel Atawo from USA and Anna-Lena Groenefeld from Germany broke the resistance of the duo Yana Sizikova (Russia)-Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine) – 6/3, 6/1. Anna Kalinskaya from Russia and Vera Lapko from Belarus came over the pair Darija Jurak (Croatia)-Renata Voracova (Czech Republic) – 6/3, 6/3.
