On Sunday, February 4, straight after St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2018 award ceremony in doubles a traditional show-match of legends took place on the central court of the stadium “SIBUR ARENA”. The world team managed to break the resistance of the Russian team – 2/4, 4/1, 10-6.

The first representatives of Russia came on the court – Elena Dementieva, Honored Master of Sports, Olympic champion of 2008, the winner of 22 WTA tournaments and the former World No. 3; Anastasia Myskina, Honored Master of Sports, French Open 2004 champion, the winner of 15 WTA tournaments and the former World No. 2; the captain Alexander Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Board at Gazprom and General Director of the tournament St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy.

The world team stood against them – Iva Majoli from Croatia, French Open 1997 champion, winner of 8 WTA tournaments and former World No. 4; Martina Hingis from Switzerland, five-time Grand Slam champion in singles, multiple Grand Slam champion in doubles, winner of 104 WTA tournaments and former No. 1 in singles and doubles; the captain Kim Clijsters from Belgium, 4-time Grand Slam champion, winner of 52 WTA tournaments, the former No. 1 in singles and doubles.

The show match was judged by Ekaterina Inozemtseva and commented by Sofya Tartakova and Mikhail Ivanov. Also, Liona, the talisman of the international tournament, appeared on the court. The match between world tennis stars was held in the format which used at Next Gen ATP Finals: three sets with four games in each one.

“I think this match will be really difficult because we will meet with eminent tennis players Elena and Anastasia . But we’ve already won the VIP match this morning, so we’re optimistic-minded. I hope we’ll show a great tennis”, – noticed Martina Hingis during a five-minute warm-up before the beginning of the match.

In the first set team Russia won with one break. During the match they demonstrated a great team work but didn’t manage to advance their opponents in next two sets. Team World used many favorite techniques and sharpened to perfection skills: for instance, Martina Hingis was serving masterfully and strongly (commentators mentioned it).

After the match there was the award ceremony and then Natalya Vetoshnikova, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR and multiple champion of the hero-city Leningrad, came on the central court of “SIBUR ARENA”. During the blockade, she participated in the City Championship among women on the stadium “Petrovsky” and won the third place.

“Tennis helps me to live and enjoy games of wonderful current tennis players. I try to visit all tournaments. Thanks to them!” – said Natalya Vetoshnikova.
