The award ceremony for the journalists at this year’s St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy was held on the central court of SIBUR ARENA, on February 15. Vera Podguzova, the PR director of the tournament and also senior vice-president at managing partner W-Pro LLC and director of External Relations Directorate Promsvyasbank, addressed the winners with a welcome speech, which highlighted the notable achievements of the tournament in its five years on tour, including its recognition by players as the best Premier-level tournament for the second year in a row.
“When we started organizing this tournament, we just wanted to make a good event, which will be attended by locals and guests of the city,” Podguzova said. “We wanted to make the events a success from a sports point of view and in order to invest in tennis’ development. From the very beginning held competitions for journalists and spectators. By the fifth anniversary, a large, close-knit team has formed, developing a real tennis family. At the same time, the amount of social media coverage of our tournament is growing every year. We thank all the journalists, because together we make the sport ever-more popular. ”
The winner of the award for “The Best Media of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2020” was the oldest newspaper in the city and the long-term partner of the tournament, “St. Petersburg Vedomosti”. Dmitry Zimin, the correspondent of the federal edition Sport-Express, triumphed in the category for “The Best Article about St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy 2020”. Arguably the most anticipated award of the day, the “Best Sports Photographer”, went to Natalia Chetverikova from Polit.ru for her shot of the Greek player Maria Sakkari, which was one of the many showcased in the arena’s Canon booth.
Olga Doronina won the “I am the best fan” contest in recognition for her unswerving support of hometown hero Svetlana Kuznetsova, which she documented via her Instagram account. In the nomination for “Best Tennis Blogger”, Karina Kuptsova, whose articles are penned under the moniker @ k.karry, the took the spoils for her quick and efficient coverage of all the goings on at the tournament.
Polina Tyutyunova claimed “The Best Instagram newsfeed of the Tournament” award for covering the event with unmatched style and panache. Pavel Vagapov, a photographer, blogger, football player and correspondent for Diplomat.ru, excelled in the category of “Best Twitter Account”. Throughout the tournament, he published news promptly, shared his opinions, organized polls, and posted amusing photos.
Galina Kaplan, the Director of the Children’s Tennis-Park Sports School and the director of the Tennis project at the Artek international children’s camp, awarded the finalists of the competitions for children “Formula of success”. Maria Shmeleva and Eva Savelyeva won in the age group of 9-10 years, while Ksenia Shnipper and Artem Safonov Artem triumphed in the age group of 11-13 years.
